If you don’t have a healthy lifestyle, through not exercising, eating an unbalanced diet, getting involved in drugs or by keeping worries and problems to yourself, you are more likely to become ill, have trouble concentrating and suffer with depression. We are here to help you take control of your health. Small changes can have a considerable impact and effectively reduce the risk of cancer, chronic heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, obesity and stress.
Good Living - Health Matters is a Third Sector organisation based in Nottingham that is focussed on improving access to information and providing one-to-one support to improve the health and wellbeing of local people. Our approach is person centred which empowers people to develop and use skills to regulate their own behaviour and make informed choices. We work with communities where local people experience health inequalities and a number of groups whose health needs are greater than others including:
- Young People Leaving Care
- Youth Offenders, Probation and Parollees
- Older people
- People from BME communities
- Low income workers
- People with health problems such as Heart Disease, Diabetes and Cancer
It may seem daunting at first, particularly if you are trying to change lifetime habits, but simple changes, like stopping smoking, eating more fruit and vegetables, cutting down on alcohol and taking regular exercise, can really help you to look and feel much better. The main things to remember are:
- Only eat as much as you need
- Choose low fat and low sugar varieties
- Eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and wholegrain foods
- Increase physical activity
